ARCH655 Final Project
For project two in ARCH655, it was a continuation of project one and I decided to develop more parametric design iterations of the canopy at the Smithsonian Institution courtyard designed by Foster + Partners located in Washington DC. The priority of this project was to create a more abstract form of the canopy with the ability to create variations along with creating a simple mass and structural form for the canopy. The use of AI was implemented to create design concepts to be implemented in the grasshopper modeling with midjourney.
AI-Generated Images:
These AI-generated images were done using MidJourney. The prompts for these images were "wave form parametric roof canopy with uniform triangular grid glazing openings (similar to the Smithsonian Institution courtyard) for a courtyard encased by building" This prompt gave the best results to the style of canopy that I was particularly looking for. The final image is the best represents the final grasshopper design that I developed.

Massing:
Simple Grasshopper nodes with an outline of the building to then extrude the surface towards the z-axis with the slider.
This was implemented to calculate the point where the columns intersected the surface. This was done to stop the column from extending out past the surface. The column now has the 2 input in the node to create the rounded end caps.
This part is used along the column height calculation section. Here the grasshopper was used create the column color and pipe to create the thickness of the column.
Elevated Surface:
The surface model was created to make the overall parametric canopy and elevate up to the desired height of the building.
This section was used to create the the triangular pattern for the surface.
Panel System with Randomly Generated Solid vs Opaque:
This was used to create the glazing and solid panelings to the canopy. This was done with the jitter node to generate randomized panelings.
